FIRE PREVENTION & PUBLIC EDUCATION

In cooperation with the Alexander County Fire Marshal's Office and the Alexander County Firemen's Association, we provide our community with information and tips that we hope will prevent fires and encourage safety. FIRE SUPPRESSION

Our reputation for being an aggressive interior attack fire department has not come easy, many hours are spent in intensive training and developing new ideas to be more effective on the fire scene. We here at Sugar Loaf Fire Department are dedicated to providing rapid response to and effective management of all types of fires including: residential, industrial / commercial, agricultural, automotive and other equipment, Woods and grass and any other type of fire that might occur. Many technological advancements have aided us in quickly controlling fires and many more are being added. SLFD is the only fire department in Alexander County equipped with a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) Pumper, equipped with this new technology we have been able to provide the most effective means of fire suppression available today, including: faster knock-down and control of fires, decreased water requirements and decreased overall damage to the structure, this technology means we no longer "fight fires", "We simply put them out" We hope you don't need our services but if you should, feel confident!

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE

Our Department is trained and equipped to effectively manage several different types of Hazardous Materials Incidents that might occur. We have access to multiple local and regional resources to assist us if the need arises.

RESCUE

Fire Departments have provided rescue services for many years and today is no different, many of our members are trained in several areas ranging from automobile extrication to high-angle rescue. We are adding equipment and resources to become more prepared to handle the various types of rescue related incidents encountered today.

TERRORISM / WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

Even prior to the 9/11 attacks on our nation, we have been preparing. Our department has attended specialized training along with other agencies in Alexander County and are prepared to handle the increasingly more common threat to our nation.

MEDICAL RESPONSE

The majority of calls we are dispatched to are of a medical nature. Here at Sugar Loaf we are sensitive to the needs of our community and have placed a great deal of emphasis on emergency medical training and equipment, to more effectively manage and treat you and your loved ones in the event of an emergency. Nearly 90 percent of our members are medically trained. We have a very close working relationship with the EMS service in Alexander County and feel that this has a positive impact on patient care. We also carry Automatic External Defibrillators to provide early defibrillation in the event of cardiac arrest.
